Don’t sell you dreams at the “Pasar Malam”

I remember some time back, when I had first decided to start my own business, talking to my wife in the morning and saying, “ I really don’t want to become a “terror” trainer….I just want to make some money to live.” A long pause followed and then we just shook heads and changed topics. Now what my wife did not know of was the internal movie I was running in my head when I said this, together with the dialogue and feelings that accompanied it…..it wasn’t pretty, to say the least. I was thinking small, feeling small and talking my self small!

In all honesty, I was scared by this new venture. I was in unfamiliar ground and the meanings I was giving to this “strange new place” I was in, was not too hot! I gave in to doubt, fear, unreasonable expectations and more of the same doubts, fears and unreasonable expectations that my dreams got “tsunamied” by them! I was selling myself short…selling my dreams at the “pasar malam” or night market! Personal excellence, self actualization and living out my highest and best intentions regardless, had been washed out to deep sea!

The lesson I learned….stay awake to your dreams! Don’t fall asleep to them by your doubts, fears, unreasonable expectations, what “others” are saying and doing, the competition, etc. Be aware but don’t give in to them by deciding to live small and settle for lesser outcomes. Take charge of your thinking, the meanings you’re are making in your head, the movies you would like to play in your mind and the sounds and accompanying feelings. This could be the difference between living your best intentions and selling them cheap at the “pasar malam”…unless, of course, your dream is to be at the pasar malam!

Stay committed to transcending, transforming and transferring value back to your world!
